This honor opens doors for students by providing access to future scholarship programs and workshops, the ability to have work publically displayed in the Art. The students being recognized today join a legacy of teens facilitating important dialogue through their art and writing. We celebrate these innovative teens as members of the next generation of great American artists and writers.

The Awards have fostered creativity and talent since for millions of students and feature a notable list of alumni including: The collective output of these young innovators creates a portrait in time of our American identity and, for the teens, it reinforces the positive habits that come from creative self-expression.

A full list of special awards and scholarships are available at: Students in grades 7—12 in the U. All works are evaluated through blind adjudication first on a regional level by more than local affiliates of the Alliance and then nationally by an impressive panel of creative industry experts.

These students and their teachers are honored locally through community ceremonies and exhibitions. All Gold Key recipients are forwarded for the next round of national awards and honors.

National Recipients and Special Awards are announced. Tour — a traveling public exhibition displaying teen-produced art and writing. Writing recipients may have their work published in The Best Teen Writing ofan anthology showcasing stories, essays, and poetry of teen authors.

About the Program – Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

In the program year, a record-breakingworks were submitted for adjudication at the regional level, with more than 2, public, private, and home-schooled students receiving national recognition.

Each year, exhibition, publication, and scholarship opportunities are made available to students honored through the program for their creative work in 29 categories, with opportunities expanding each year.

It has grown into what is now a model program for the rest of the country, exhibiting the best student artwork and writing of the region in the FWMoA galleries.

Students in grades in Mississippi public and independent schools, as well as home-schooled students, are eligible to enter the Scholastic Writing Awards, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, through the Mississippi Regional program.

Founded in , the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program is the longest-running, most prestigious initiative of its kind, having fostered the creativity and talent of millions of students through recognition, exhibitions, publications and scholarships. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation’s most prestigious recognition program for artists and writers, which identified the early promise of Richard Avedon, Joyce Maynard, Tom Otterness, Philip Pearlstein, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Joyce Carol Oates, Andy Warhol and Zac Posen.
